Be careful durring the Hurricane!

At Patsy's, we love celebrating, regardless of the occasion! So this year we've reinstated an old favorite for the months of autumn, and we're also introducing something new to spice things up!

Our delicious pumpkin tortelloni is back for Fall!

First off, we've once again got our pumpkin tortelloni firing up in the kitchen. This has become a favorite over the years, and it's easy to see why - we fill the tortellini with only the freshest, juiciest pumpkins, and it actually adds a surprisingly good taste. There's a hint of sweetness and a lot of heartiness.

On top of that, we cover it with a velvety layer of a special cream sauce that's also got tha same sweetness to it. All in all, it's a dish you really can't miss, so if you're in the area be sure to book a reservation soon.

As far as what's new, we're trying something different this year! As you know, we've always offered both chocolate and raspberry Tartuffo for dessert, but we've also introduced pumpkin in honor of the season!

If you love Tartuffo, you've gotta try this flavor!

While we're on the subject of Fall, have you been celebrating Patsy's "Pizzaiola Month"? You still have a few days left to take advantage of the savings - from now until the end of October, shipping is free on any and every jar of Pizzaiola that you order! On top of that, we've got recipes on the site all about how best to use it.

So enjoy the rest of October... and take care of yourselves during this hurricane!

It's always exciting when a big celebrity or an instantly recognizable face walks through our doors, but we're just as happy when we see one of our long-standing customers. Even brand new people who've never eaten at Patsy's before are always welcome guests, and since we've made a point of designating several blog posts to the many celebrities that have dined with us, we thought it'd be appropriate to acknowledge some of our other beloved customers.

Finally, we've got a great little story from Michael Mott, a first time customer who wanted to share his experience!

I am by no means a famous actor and or singer, but my father, his wife and my girlfriend felt like royalty for our recent dinner on September 19^th of 2012.  We had called Patsy’s last minute, while on vacation, at about 7:30pm and were told to come on over, as it was my father’s 70th birthday.

Our family comes from northern Italy (Austria in the day) and we wanted some good food while in town.  A friend of the family suggested Patsy’s and so my father was keen on going there!  To make a long story short, we showed up last minute after calling and we were seated promptly upstairs.  Not sure if it’s a split staff but the guys upstairs were wonderful, sadly I cannot remember any names!  I did take this picture with this wonderful gentleman:

Long story short, Patsy’s is our first stop now when we hit NYC (that and staying at the Warwick) and will remain a lasting memory.  Great food, great wine and great friends met!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Joe!

It's amazing how fast a year goes by - it feels like only a short time ago that I was saying happy birthday to Uncle Joe for his 79th birthday, and now it's his 80th!

This is a big deal for Uncle Joe, as it represents a huge milestone in his life. He's been through a lot in his 80 years, from his childhood where his parents were still struggling to make a living in America, to his adulthood where he saw Patsy's grow and flourish into a cornerstone of NYC's treasured restaurant industry.

Uncle Joe with his beloved wife, Aunt Rose. They've been happily married for many years, and they're looking forward to many more!

Now he's an extremely proud father, grandfather, husband, uncle, and friend to the many, many lives he's touched over the years. It's an incredible testament to his impact on not only the restaurant, but also the city, that people still flood into the restaurant who greet him with a friendly "Joey! How you doin'?"

The truth is, there wouldn't be a Patsy's today without Uncle Joe. When Patsy himself was a young man trying to save up enough money to fund his American dream, a little six year old Joey took a job in a pastry shop in Little Italy to help the family save up money. He had several odd jobs in the pastry shop, and I remember him telling me that one of the job requirements was knowing how to whistle. This wouldn't seem like a necessary skill for selling pastries, but the owner of the shop wanted Uncle Joe to constantly be whistling whenever he couldn't see him - that way, he knew he wasn't eating anything in the store!

As young Joey began to grow into a man, he became more and more instrumental in the dream that Patsy was fulfilling. Uncle Joe helped out at the Sorrento (the restaurant that Patsy co-owned before Patsy's), and when it finally came time for Patsy to start his own restaurant, Uncle Joe was a full-time chef. Having a chef you trust in a brand-new restaurant is easily one of the most important keys to staying around for a long time, so the fact that Patsy's has been open for so many decades is a testament to all the great food that Uncle Joe produced in those early years. (And make no mistake, he's still got it!)

Uncle Joe with one of his grandsons, Chef Peter. Peter is proudly continuing the tradition that Uncle Joe started of being a Scognamillo Chef who works the position that Patsy himself once worked!

As time went on and Patsy's stood tall in a city of giants, Uncle Joe's role has shifted. Where he was once the head chef of a kitchen fulfilling packed pre-theater dinner crowds on a nightly basis, he's now in the front, warmly greeting people and showing them to their tables. (Pre-theater dinner crowds are still busy, though!) He used to train new, untested chefs, eager to learn enough of Patsy's recipes so that they could stake out a career there, but now he mentors his young grandson Peter, paving the way for a fourth generation of Scognamillo chefs at Patsy's. And as he was once a young boy full of dreams and ambitions, he is now the protector and patriarch of our family.

Uncle Joe, thanks so much for everything you've done for our family, for Patsy's, and for people everywhere who want great Italian food! We all love you, and wish you a very happy birthday and many more, as you continue to enjoy the legacy that you helped create all those years ago.

Staying up late with Brad Paisley!

The other night, just as we were getting ready to close our doors, we had a nice surprise - Brad Paisley showed up with a bunch of guests, and they were all hungry!

Whether you're a first-time customer or a great country music singer, we're always happy to feed anyone that comes in hungry!

He'd shown up with his band-mates and some relatives right around the time we were closing, but since he's in the middle of a tour and has to be very busy, we totally understand and didn't mind at all keeping the restaurant open for him.

There was a bit of a compromise, in that we made a bunch of chopped salad, gnocchi and meatballs for the whole group, rather than them ordering individual things. But this was perfect for them, since they were famished and just wanted some good, hearty food.

We'd also like to congratulate him on his song winning Collaborative Video of the Year. We knew he deserved it!

Just for fun, here's a cute article that people.com ran on the same story. They've got a running segment called "Caught in the Act", and I guess someone caught Brad at Patsy's that night!

Fighting Hunger with a Taste of the NFL and the New York Jets!

Being that Patsy's is a restaurant, we're always making sure people are well-fed. Every so often, we extend this beyond our customers and do our part to take care of the hungry, homeless, and less fortunate. Of the programs that we're part of, I don't think there are any more exciting than the "Taste of the NFL" ones!

The event was held in the ballroom at the Cipriani Club - the set-up was gorgeous!

If you aren't familiar with the charity, "Taste of the NFL" was started some time ago as a way to bring communities in NFL cities together and help feed the hungry of those cities. The draw of the program is that it combines the greatest, most iconic restaurants of a given city with their favorite football players - you can eat a plate of fresh pasta from Patsy's while chatting it up with Darrell Reavis! As you can imagine, that draws a huge crowd, which in turns raises a tremendous amount of money for the charity. Last night, that meant that Patsy's was teaming up with a bunch of all-stars in the NFL and the restaurant business!

The way the event was set up involved every restaurant "hosting" a Jet. That meant that one of the Jets would hang out near the restaurant's booth, and people could go up and talk to them while grabbing some food. While the big draw of the event is naturally the Jets players, the organization also made sure it had the best restaurants in New York serving everyone dinner.

Between silent and live auctions as well as special Jets memorabilia that you could buy and have signed by all the players in attendance, a tremendous amount of money was raised. It'll definitely go a long way to fighting hunger in NYC! The great thing about Taste of the NFL is that it's extending to just about every city with an NFL team. So, if you feel like supporting a great charity while also meeting your favorite football players, you might want to look it up and see when the event's being held near you.

All in all, it was a great night that did a lot of good for the city, so we're proud to say we were there, and also humbled that we were included in the organization's opinion of top NYC restaurants. Until next year!

Come celebrate Mother's Day with us!

Mother's day falls on May 13th this year, so make sure you plan ahead in such a way that you'll give Mom a day to remember! If you're thinking of taking her out to eat but aren't sure which restaurant in the city is worthy of someone who's done as much for you as your Mom has, we've got the solution! Here at Patsy's, we're doing a prix fixe menu that's sure to make any mother beam with pride - so much so that it was even featured on City Guide!

For starters, we're giving you a choice of either our classic breaded and baked clams or a dish of roasted peppers and mozzarella. You'll then get a Patsy's House Salad, and for your main course get a choice between our succulent Chicken Cacciatore, traditional Spaghetti with Meatballs, Eggplant Parmigiana, or our tender Veal Francese. Dessert, as always, will be served straight from our dessert cart.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but we can do you one better! Every Mom who comes in with a party of four or more will get her choice of any of our sauces. So if you've got a big group, it might be a good idea to brush up on our sauce selection.

Regardless of which sauce your mother wants, she's sure to enjoy her special day if you bring her in to Patsy's!
