Updates for Patsy's on TV!
Hey everyone, I hope you've been having a wonderful holiday season! In my previous post, I mentioned that there were a few opportunities to catch Patsy's on TV last week. If you weren't able to catch any of those (or just forgot!), then don't worry - here's the full Taste Makers episode, so you can catch everything you missed!
We'll also have the video up on our website, so if this link isn't working for you, head over to patsys.com and try your luck there.
As an update, our show that's airing on CBS this Saturday has been moved to around 8:45 am. If you want to play it safe, you can start watching at 8:30 and you definitely won't miss us.
Finally, we've got another exciting development - an episode of Real Food on Telecare that focuses squarely on Patsy's! This will initially air Sunday, December 30th, but they'll be playing it repeatedly throughout the week, so if you miss one showing, you'll have plenty of other opportunities to watch. The full schedule is pretty elaborate, so I'll post everything below:
So if you're interested, keep checking back with Telecare and you'll be sure to see us at any of these times!
All in all, it's been an incredible holiday season for us - and we're not done yet!

Happy Holidays, everyone!
The holiday season is in full swing, and it's a wonderful time for all of us at Patsy's! On top of our usual festivities, Patsy's will be on TV several times in the next few weeks, so if you'd like to see more about what life if like at Patsy's, be sure to watch!
You'll be able to catch us at the following channels/times:
December 15th: WPIX Channel 11, at 6:30 pm
December 21st: CBS Local (NY, NJ and CN) at 6:45 am
December 22nd: CBS National at 6:45 am
Since the holidays are also our busy season, we'd like to remind people that if you're making plans to come in at any time in December, you'll definitely want a reservation. We're booking up incredibly fast, so even if you're planning something two weeks from now, definitely call us as soon as you can so that you don't miss out!
Of course, if you live far away and can't make it into Patsy's, then you may have been considering a gift from our store. Our gift baskets make great presents, but they're selling quickly - in fact, our Patsy's Italian Essentials collection is already sold out! We still have several other options, so if a special someone in your life had their heart set on a Patsy's gift basket, they're not out of luck yet!
And of course, if you want a leaner gift, you can always pick up a Patsy's Gift Certificate. It's definitely the perfect way to make a card a little more exciting. Our store has all the usual suspects as well, so if you're thinking of stuffing a stocking with some sauce or pasta, here's the link!

Patsy's has re-opened!
Hi everyone,
Another quick update - although the storm has taken its toll on us, we've been able to re-open. Not all of our employees have been able to make it in since so many of them rely on the subways and buses to get to work, but we have enough that we're able to open both kitchens and dining rooms.
These are tough times, so if you're stuck in the area or you find yourself without power, and you want some good food to warm you up and some friendly faces to comfort you, please, stop by. We'll be here for you.

Have you tried our exclusive fall dishes?
At Patsy's, we love celebrating, regardless of the occasion! So this year we've reinstated an old favorite for the months of autumn, and we're also introducing something new to spice things up!
First off, we've once again got our pumpkin tortelloni firing up in the kitchen. This has become a favorite over the years, and it's easy to see why - we fill the tortellini with only the freshest, juiciest pumpkins, and it actually adds a surprisingly good taste. There's a hint of sweetness and a lot of heartiness.
On top of that, we cover it with a velvety layer of a special cream sauce that's also got tha same sweetness to it. All in all, it's a dish you really can't miss, so if you're in the area be sure to book a reservation soon.
As far as what's new, we're trying something different this year! As you know, we've always offered both chocolate and raspberry Tartuffo for dessert, but we've also introduced pumpkin in honor of the season!
While we're on the subject of Fall, have you been celebrating Patsy's "Pizzaiola Month"? You still have a few days left to take advantage of the savings - from now until the end of October, shipping is free on any and every jar of Pizzaiola that you order! On top of that, we've got recipes on the site all about how best to use it.
So enjoy the rest of October... and take care of yourselves during this hurricane!

Thanks to our customers!
It's always exciting when a big celebrity or an instantly recognizable face walks through our doors, but we're just as happy when we see one of our long-standing customers. Even brand new people who've never eaten at Patsy's before are always welcome guests, and since we've made a point of designating several blog posts to the many celebrities that have dined with us, we thought it'd be appropriate to acknowledge some of our other beloved customers.
First up, we've got a great picture from long-time customer Chris Khan and his family!
Next is a charming little photo courtesy of some visitors from Tennessee!
Finally, we've got a great little story from Michael Mott, a first time customer who wanted to share his experience!
Our family comes from northern Italy (Austria in
the day) and we wanted some good food while in town. A friend of the
family suggested Patsy’s and so my father was keen on going there! To
make a long story short, we showed up last minute
after calling and we were seated promptly upstairs. Not sure if it’s a
split staff but the guys upstairs were wonderful, sadly I cannot
remember any names! I did take this picture with this wonderful
gentleman:
Michael Mott
Got a story that you'd love to share about your relationship with Patsy's? Maybe you've got a great photo of you and your family with Sal from a great vacation you had in NYC, or perhaps you've been coming into the restaurant since you were a child and just want to share some fond memories. Don't be shy! We'd love to hear from you. E-mail us, and we'll make sure you're also a star on one of our next blog posts!

I am by no means a famous actor and or singer, but
my father, his wife and my girlfriend felt like royalty for our recent
dinner on September 19th of 2012. We had called Patsy’s last minute, while on vacation, at about 7:30pm
and were told to come on over, as it was my father’s 70th birthday.
Long story short, Patsy’s is our first stop now
when we hit NYC (that and staying at the Warwick) and will remain a
lasting memory. Great food, great wine and great friends met!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Joe!
It's amazing how fast a year goes by - it feels like only a short time ago that I was saying happy birthday to Uncle Joe for his 79th birthday, and now it's his 80th!
This is a big deal for Uncle Joe, as it represents a huge milestone in his life. He's been through a lot in his 80 years, from his childhood where his parents were still struggling to make a living in America, to his adulthood where he saw Patsy's grow and flourish into a cornerstone of NYC's treasured restaurant industry.
Now he's an extremely proud father, grandfather, husband, uncle, and friend to the many, many lives he's touched over the years. It's an incredible testament to his impact on not only the restaurant, but also the city, that people still flood into the restaurant who greet him with a friendly "Joey! How you doin'?"
The truth is, there wouldn't be a Patsy's today without Uncle Joe. When Patsy himself was a young man trying to save up enough money to fund his American dream, a little six year old Joey took a job in a pastry shop in Little Italy to help the family save up money. He had several odd jobs in the pastry shop, and I remember him telling me that one of the job requirements was knowing how to whistle. This wouldn't seem like a necessary skill for selling pastries, but the owner of the shop wanted Uncle Joe to constantly be whistling whenever he couldn't see him - that way, he knew he wasn't eating anything in the store!
As young Joey began to grow into a man, he became more and more instrumental in the dream that Patsy was fulfilling. Uncle Joe helped out at the Sorrento (the restaurant that Patsy co-owned before Patsy's), and when it finally came time for Patsy to start his own restaurant, Uncle Joe was a full-time chef. Having a chef you trust in a brand-new restaurant is easily one of the most important keys to staying around for a long time, so the fact that Patsy's has been open for so many decades is a testament to all the great food that Uncle Joe produced in those early years. (And make no mistake, he's still got it!)
As time went on and Patsy's stood tall in a city of giants, Uncle Joe's role has shifted. Where he was once the head chef of a kitchen fulfilling packed pre-theater dinner crowds on a nightly basis, he's now in the front, warmly greeting people and showing them to their tables. (Pre-theater dinner crowds are still busy, though!) He used to train new, untested chefs, eager to learn enough of Patsy's recipes so that they could stake out a career there, but now he mentors his young grandson Peter, paving the way for a fourth generation of Scognamillo chefs at Patsy's. And as he was once a young boy full of dreams and ambitions, he is now the protector and patriarch of our family.
Uncle Joe, thanks so much for everything you've done for our family, for Patsy's, and for people everywhere who want great Italian food! We all love you, and wish you a very happy birthday and many more, as you continue to enjoy the legacy that you helped create all those years ago.

Staying up late with Brad Paisley!
The other night, just as we were getting ready to close our doors, we had a nice surprise - Brad Paisley showed up with a bunch of guests, and they were all hungry!
He'd shown up with his band-mates and some relatives right around the time we were closing, but since he's in the middle of a tour and has to be very busy, we totally understand and didn't mind at all keeping the restaurant open for him.
There was a bit of a compromise, in that we made a bunch of chopped salad, gnocchi and meatballs for the whole group, rather than them ordering individual things. But this was perfect for them, since they were famished and just wanted some good, hearty food.
We'd also like to congratulate him on his song winning Collaborative Video of the Year. We knew he deserved it!
Just for fun, here's a cute article that people.com ran on the same story. They've got a running segment called "Caught in the Act", and I guess someone caught Brad at Patsy's that night!
Whether you're a first-time customer or a great country music singer, we're always happy to feed anyone that comes in hungry! |

Fighting Hunger with a Taste of the NFL and the New York Jets!
Being that Patsy's is a restaurant, we're always making sure people are well-fed. Every so often, we extend this beyond our customers and do our part to take care of the hungry, homeless, and less fortunate. Of the programs that we're part of, I don't think there are any more exciting than the "Taste of the NFL" ones!
If you aren't familiar with the charity, "Taste of the NFL" was started some time ago as a way to bring communities in NFL cities together and help feed the hungry of those cities. The draw of the program is that it combines the greatest, most iconic restaurants of a given city with their favorite football players - you can eat a plate of fresh pasta from Patsy's while chatting it up with Darrell Reavis! As you can imagine, that draws a huge crowd, which in turns raises a tremendous amount of money for the charity. Last night, that meant that Patsy's was teaming up with a bunch of all-stars in the NFL and the restaurant business!
The way the event was set up involved every restaurant "hosting" a Jet. That meant that one of the Jets would hang out near the restaurant's booth, and people could go up and talk to them while grabbing some food. While the big draw of the event is naturally the Jets players, the organization also made sure it had the best restaurants in New York serving everyone dinner.
Between silent and live auctions as well as special Jets memorabilia that you could buy and have signed by all the players in attendance, a tremendous amount of money was raised. It'll definitely go a long way to fighting hunger in NYC! The great thing about Taste of the NFL is that it's extending to just about every city with an NFL team. So, if you feel like supporting a great charity while also meeting your favorite football players, you might want to look it up and see when the event's being held near you.
All in all, it was a great night that did a lot of good for the city, so we're proud to say we were there, and also humbled that we were included in the organization's opinion of top NYC restaurants. Until next year!
The event was held in the ballroom at the Cipriani Club - the set-up was gorgeous! |

Come celebrate Mother's Day with us!
Mother's day falls on May 13th this year, so make sure you plan ahead in such a way that you'll give Mom a day to remember! If you're thinking of taking her out to eat but aren't sure which restaurant in the city is worthy of someone who's done as much for you as your Mom has, we've got the solution! Here at Patsy's, we're doing a prix fixe menu that's sure to make any mother beam with pride - so much so that it was even featured on City Guide!
For starters, we're giving you a choice of either our classic breaded and baked clams or a dish of roasted peppers and mozzarella. You'll then get a Patsy's House Salad, and for your main course get a choice between our succulent Chicken Cacciatore, traditional Spaghetti with Meatballs, Eggplant Parmigiana, or our tender Veal Francese. Dessert, as always, will be served straight from our dessert cart.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but we can do you one better! Every Mom who comes in with a party of four or more will get her choice of any of our sauces. So if you've got a big group, it might be a good idea to brush up on our sauce selection.
Regardless of which sauce your mother wants, she's sure to enjoy her special day if you bring her in to Patsy's! If this sounds enticing to you, feel free to call us at 212-247-3491 to make a reservation! And whether you spend the day with us or not, we wish all the moms out there a happy Mother's Day for everything they've done for us!

Happy Saint Joseph's Day!
It's Saint Joseph's Day again today, which means we have a lot to celebrate.
First off, there's our exclusive Saint Joseph's Day menu, packed with a choice selection of our favorites for the holiday. We've got stuffed artichokes, stuffed mushrooms, minestrone soup, broccoli rabe, Pasta con Sardi, Striped Bass alla Livornese, and (of course!) Zeppole de San Giuseppe.
For those that don't know, Saint Joseph's Day is the celebration of Jesus's earthly father and the husband of the virgin Mary. Since he's such an important saint, Christians around the world show him a lot of admiration and respect by naming their children after him!
Such is the case with our very own Uncle Joe. If you haven't read last years blog (or you want to refresh your memory), click here to read it all! Joe Scognamillo is one of the pillars of the restaurant, and has worked here since his father created Patsy's all those years ago.
So on today we honor Saint Joseph, Uncle Joe, and some pretty great food! Not a bad day, all in all.

Patsy's 109th Birthday!
It's March 6th again, which means that it's Patsy's 109th birthday today! Once again, all of us in the Patsy's family are remembering the man who did so much and sacrificed so much for us.
It really is incredible what kind of business he established. Even today, his dreams and goals live themselves out every day in the restaurant. As an example, I was in last night to get some work done. While there, I had lunch with my cousin Sal (who I've always viewed as an uncle), said hello to my Aunt Connie and Uncle Harry, who were in to see a live show by George Pettignano (more on that show tomorrow!), and drove home with my father when the restaurant was closed. Our family still, to this day, is a part of everything the restaurant does.
In fact, the Patsy's family even extends online. I'm not sure if you all know this, but my Aunt Annie also works on the site, processing sauce/pasta orders and managing customer feedback. In fact, my brother was the one that made the banner for Patsy's birthday!
We can't say "thank you" enough to Patsy, and while the best way to honor him is by doing our best to keep the restaurant going strong and running smoothly, on his birthday we always remember him in our own special way.
If you'd like to read last year's birthday blog post, which details some defining moments in his life, it's right here.

It's New York vs. New England at Patsy's!
As you all know, we've got an exciting Super Bowl coming up - a rematch of 2008's unbelievable game between the Giants and the Pats. The entire country can't wait for Sunday, but for fans in NY and Boston, it's not just a game - pride is on the line here. Whichever city wins will have bragging rights for the next few months, as well as being able to put another notch on their tally of "how many times we've beaten Boston/NY".
Naturally, this means the city's on edge, so Patsy's has jumped into the ring as well, pitting some classic Boston dishes against some comparable NY dishes. Chef Sal was featured on LXTV, and hosted his own battle royal in our kitchen!
In Boston's corner, he made a pot of creamy New England Clam Chowder and some Boston Cream Pie. To compete with these Bostonian favorites, Sal made Manhattan Clam Chowder and a rich New York Cheesecake! If you caught the program, you were able to watch the drama unfold as some iconic foods from these two cities squared off - if you missed it, we'll get a link for you shortly with the video. ;)
But this isn't all! To show his support for Big Blue, Sal also whipped up some blue-colored food! If you're thinking "huh???", remember back to the Jet's season, where Sal made some green food to cheer them on? He figured it was appropriate to support the Giants in the same way!
Not bad, right? It was actually pretty difficult to come up with legitimate kinds of food that could be legally consumed in a restaurant while blue, so I'll walk you through what we're dealing with here.
On the top right you've got our classic Patsy's Cheesecake, with a twist - Sal stuffed that baby with plump, fresh blueberries. (When it came to figuring out what blue foods we could work with, blueberries were the first thing that came to mind - we had to find some way to fit them in!)
On the left is a more creative solution to blue food; a blue-potato pie! That's right, apparently blue potatoes are a thing, and Sal mashed them up, mixed them with some bleu cheese (haha!), and made a pretty delicious pie out of them. Interesting enough, this is the bluest looking offering, which was pretty impressive.
Finally, on the far right you'll see an assortment of fish. To be specific, those are blue-point oysters surrounding a choice cut of blue fish! They're blue in name, not in color, but let's be honest - you don't want to be eating fish or oysters that are genuinely blue!
So we've done our part for the G-men - we hosted a food-themed brawl in our kitchen, made blue food, and happily ate everything! The rest is up to them.
Hmm... wonder who Sinatra favors? ; ) |
Naturally, this means the city's on edge, so Patsy's has jumped into the ring as well, pitting some classic Boston dishes against some comparable NY dishes. Chef Sal was featured on LXTV, and hosted his own battle royal in our kitchen!

Whoever knew food could look so blue? |

And if you're going to the game, stay warm! (Sorry, we couldn't resist.) |

It's Amore! We're Celebrating Valentine's Day in a big way at Patsy's!
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that we've got some very exciting Valentine's Day plans for Patsy's!
As you may know, we traditionally do a Valentine's Day Menu every year that actually lasts from February 12th to February 14th. If you choose to try our Valentine's Day Menu, you'll start off with an Arugala Salad that's topped off with shaved parmesan cheese and basil vinaigrette. Following this, we'll give you breaded Baked Clams and our classic Chicken Fra Diavolo. Along with your meal comes a unique creation; our Patsy's Passion cocktail is made with Vodka, Chambord, and Creme de Cacao! For Desert, you'll get a Valentine's Day Classic - our warm chocolate cake served with strawberries, honey, whipped cream, and some coffee.
The entire special costs $59.00 per person and will be available from 12:00 - 10:00 on February 12th through February 14th.
However, this year we're doing something additional! Perhaps you've gotten the e-mail pertaining to the event (and you might already be signed up!), because Patsy's is hosting Songs of Love, a special Valentine's Day-themed luncheon with live singing to warm your heart and food to fill your stomach! It's a busy day for Sal on Sunday!
Hey all,
Just wanted to bring you some exciting news - this Sunday, Chef Sal will be appearing on two separate shows!
He'll be getting things started bright and early on CBS (channel 2). At 8:50 AM, Sal will be doing some cooking with Tony Tantillo. They're making Pasta Con Lenticchie. Literally, that means "Pasta with Lentils", but it's a bit more involved than that, as you'll see in the segment. If you aren't familiar with the dish, or you've had it and would love to make some yourself, this is a must-see!
But maybe the early morning's not your thing? No problem! At 2:30 pm, Sal will make a guest appearance on a fundraiser that telecare tv is hosting. Since telecare is a cable channel, whether or not you have it will depend on your provider.
If you do end up missing both Sal's 8:50 AM and 2:30 pm clips, we'll be sure to post the videos on the site, so check back afterwards to watch them both! Hopefully you'll be able to see them live, though - it's always more fun that way!
